En prenant en compte de manière systématique la vie familiale et professionnelle de la personne concernée, le dispositif introduit une contrainte qui peut réduire son efficacité dans la lutte contre la délinquance. L'objectif premier de ces interdictions est d'éloigner les individus des lieux où ils commettent leurs infractions pour préserver la sécurité des citoyens qui y sont implantés, sans que des considérations plus personnelles ne puissent entraver ces mesures.
